As the worldwide demand for healthy, sustainable products and buildings continues to expand, consumers, designers and building industry professionals seek legitimate standards for evaluating product sustainability claims. GREENGUARD Certification programs provide the market with solutions and resources to ensure healthier buildings and provide manufacturers with credible tools to legitimize and promote their sustainability efforts. The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute supports certified manufacturers by actively promoting the GREENGUARD Certification programs and the GREENGUARD brand in the marketplace and by supporting GREENGUARD Certified products.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is recognized as an important concern in the creation of healthy, high-performance buildings and is highlighted as a key component of numerous sustainable building programs and procurement guidelines around the world. Chemicals and particle emissions including, allergens and molds are the primary sources of indoor air pollution and can have significant health impacts on building occupants and economic consequences for building owners, architects and designers. GREENGUARD Certification programs provide scientific rigor based on best practice guidelines, stringent evaluation criteria and robust verification procedures to effectively control the sources of these environmental pollutants.

Manufacturers may choose to certify an individual product, but typically certify complete product lines that combine a range of raw materials, components, manufacturing processes and manufacturing locations. Participation in a GREENGUARD Certification program requires a manufacturer to participate in product reviews, manufacturing evaluations and certification testing of products and materials. The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute and its scientific partners work hand-in-hand with manufacturers to develop effective, efficient and economical plans for certifying a broad range of products. All certified products carry the GREENGUARD Certification mark. Use of the certification mark is contingent on a manufacturer’s continued compliance with ongoing certification testing and reporting requirements. Presence of the mark on certified products provides assurance to consumers, specifiers, architects, designers, suppliers, regulators, manufacturers and other third parties, that labeled products meet the requirements of the program.

GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified^®
A product certification program for low-emitting building materials, furniture, furnishings, finishes, cleaning products, electronics and consumer products. All GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified products meet stringent certification requirements and must undergo both annual re-certification and quarterly quality monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance. GREENGUARD Children & Schools^SM Certified
A product certification program for low-emitting building materials, furniture, finishes, cleaning products, electronics and consumer products used in environments where children and other sensitive populations spend extended periods of time. All GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certified products meet the stringent GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification requirements, including limits outlined in California's Department of Public Health Services Standard Practice for Specification Section 01350, and undergo both annual re-certification and quarterly quality monitoring to ensure ongoing compliance. GREENGUARD Building Construction^SM Certified
A building certification program for newly constructed multifamily and commercial properties that follows best practice guidelines for preventing mold and moisture intrusion during design, construction and ongoing operations. Building projects are registered and must undergo review during design, construction, and initial operational phases. A building project compliant with ANSI/GEI-MMS1001, achieves GREENGUARD Building Construction Certification. This standard is available for purchase.
